GUWAHATI: Thousands of former members of the AASU (All Assam Assam Students' Union) joined the BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party) in a programme held at the SrimantaSankardevaKalakshetra here on Wednesday.
"Our Government of Assam has been working tirelessly since the 2016 elections, focusing on our goals and our rights. Our only goal is to achieve greater development of Assamese society through unity of culture with a diverse community," said Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal who was present at the function.
Addressing the party workers, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass described the BJP as a 'Khilangiya government' and said it believed in a universal policy.
It is the policy of the BJP to pay homage to the old and the new, said Dass.
National General Secretary and MP DilipSaikia, called on the former members of the AASU to join hands with the BJP and continue to serve the nation.
State BJP vice president JayantaMallaBaruah, general secretary and MP PallavLochan Das, MP TapanGogoi, chief spokesperson of the party RupamGoswami as well as many State level party activists were also present in the joining programme.
